The Nikkei featured “The Folklore of KAGURA” as a good example of the traditional culture promotion in Japan

2025.6.3

“The Folklore of KAGURA programme” that OUGI planned and owns is featured in the 3rd June issue Nikkei (newspaper). The article is about “focusing on the high-end inbound tourist consumption model cases to succeed on a small-scale” as an example of the promotion of Japanese tradition to inbound tourists.

The article featured the two points of “the Folklore of KAGURA programme” in Usa City, Oita prefecture. The first point is the experiential aspect. The past participants from France learned the historical value of kagura, which is a traditional dance performance for kami (gods) at the shrine, while they actually practiced kagura everyday for the performance on the final day of the programme. The second point is the emotional aspect. The participants were deeply moved to tears after completing their kagura performance. OUGI believes those points show the potential of Japanese local culture for contributing to the travel industry.

OUGI continues to work on “The Folklore of KAGURA programme” and other activities, to contribute to sustainable tourism and the inheritance of traditional culture rooted in the locals.
